Texas Ebony

Ebenopsis ebano

Texas Ebony is an iconic native tree of the Rio Grande. Slower growing, but great for supporting insects, birds, and other wildlife and casting a dense cooling shade. Their summer flowers are fragrant and attractive to pollinators. Thick-podded beans have edible uses in both green and dry stages.

Opuntia leptocarpa/Opuntia macrorhiza

The smallest and cutest of the local prickly pears and perfect for urban landscapes where full sized prickly pear might be unwieldy. Gorgeous bi-color blooms in the late springtime. Great for a potted native arrangement or small cactus garden.

Extremely drought tolerant and fragrant shrub. Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and pollinators and a great addition to an edible native herb garden. Perfect fresh or dry for seasoning and teas.
