About us

Prickly Pair RGV is passionate about water-smart landscapes for people and wildlife. We’re here to support thriving outdoor spaces in the Rio Grande Valley through native landscape design, installation, and plant sales!

John has been observing and appreciating natural ecosystems in the Valley since childhood and brings a deep understanding of native plants and their roles in urban landscapes. Through his work at Quinta Mazatlán, he has designed and implemented restoration and land stewardship projects at many scales, including a series of Tiny Forests in McAllen.

Stephanie brings a decade of experience in sustainable agriculture and a passion for wild and domestic food producing plants in urban landscapes. She has started and managed vegetable gardens at every scale from patio garden to 20 acre farm and was the lead author of the Rio Grande Valley Grower’s Guide during her time managing UTRGV’s Hub of Prosperity Farm.

John and Steph are both certified in Rainwater Harvest Design by the Watershed Management Group and Steph has completed the Native Plant Society of Texas Native Landscape Certification Program. Together, they make up the friendliest prickly pair you’ll ever meet and would love to help you bring your sustainable landscaping dreams to life.
